Another “rescore” project! This time you’ll hear my take on the most recent Com Truise music video. The video’s the same, but as usual I’ve created a new musical score (and laser sounds!). All synth parts were recorded using analog synths and outboard effects processors. Enjoy!

I wrote the music for this short doc over two years ago, but just now found it online. Check it out, the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center is my sister’s project and it’s awesome.

My score for an animated short by Zoya Baker. My teacher Ira Newborn made fun of me because he thinks parts of it sound like the character should be riding a horse through the Italian countryside, aka way too romantic for an animated film. Deal with it, Ira! :) I’m romantic.

I produced and mixed this track today, which was written by my fellow NYU film composer Noam Levy. Music starts about halfway through the video.

This film is by Greg Williams and Zahia. The original version can be seen here vimeo.com/23916767 . For fun, I stripped the audio from the original and created my own sound design and musical score. The whole project took a little under 3 days with an added day of mixing and minor tweaks.

This is a track from a record that I’m working on right now. Excluding the kick, the sounds are constructed of short, looped samples from a track by Nexxus (John Also Bennett).

My second piece for Bullett Magazine. To accompany this haunting dinner party in a castle, I combined harpsichord and strings from the baroque tradition with warmly organic electronic sounds. The middle section briefly exposes two fugues in different keys and tempos playing simultaneously. The exponential slowing of a wristwatch’s tick and subtle tape-speed shifts implies a flexible time in...

This piece was written by Shruti Kumar, one of my fellow grad students at NYU. In order to realize the piece, we went to several junkyards and metal shops in Williamsburg to find resonant, percussive objects. Then, with the help of David Marenberg, I set up Ableton Live’s looper plugin to capture and repeat moments of my violin phrases. The looper was synchronized to a click track which we...

No Wake
“The debut release from the Ohio/NY project Seabat. This is a polyphonic madhouse. Huge chord progressions surrounded by a sea of light and precise filtering. Notes twinkle in their own zones on this one. Hidden beats and rhythmic patterns sputter along. This is long player, but does not feel so. If you light up and listen to this, consider your mind blown. Wear headphones for you listening...

I made this video of Maria Chavez performing at Silent Barn in Queens. She played four “songs”, and this one in particular caught my ears. The serene clarity of recorded birdsong, the simplicity of sound and execution, and her mastery of the turntable itself combined to create a unique and powerful music. Visit Maria’s blog if you like what you hear.

Seabat - Understanding Holography →
In September of this year John Also Bennett and I recorded this album in my apartment. At the time I was doing some reading about string theory and trying to figure out the best way to imagine dimensions 5-11, and John was reading the book Understanding Holography by Michael Wenyon. The sound of this album stems from our shared fascination with the holographic nature of memory and...

katiepierce: Forest Christenson has departed Columbus to get his M.F.A. in Film Scoring and we miss him dearly. But, wowzas!  His collaboration with director Chip Willis is absolutely STUNNING.  It’s so lovely that even though some leave this state, they still contribute their creativity.  That femme fatale is my friend Natalie.  An absolute natural in front of the lens.  I’m just dying to meet...
