This piece was written by Shruti Kumar, one of my fellow grad students at NYU. In order to realize the piece, we went to several junkyards and metal shops in Williamsburg to find resonant, percussive objects. Then, with the help of David Marenberg, I set up Ableton Live’s looper plugin to capture and repeat moments of my violin phrases. The looper was synchronized to a click track which we were monitoring with headphones. The piece was premiered as part of a 4-work concert of new music at Brooklyn’s Center for Performance Research.
